Department of Slavic Studies

The Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Vienna is the largest and oldest research and teaching institute for the Slavic languages in the world and ranks among the leading international institutions in many areas (especially w.r.t. research into historical and comparative Slavic linguistics). With its focus on language, literary and cultural contact phenomena and on Slavic dialectology (including Burgenland Croatian and Slovenian in Carinthia), the institute includes research areas that are underrepresented both in the German-speaking countries and beyond.
