Department of Finno-Ugrian Studies
The Department of Finno-Ugrian Studies in Vienna is the only one of its kind in Austria: a university department for the teaching and research of the Finno-Ugric languages – in particular, Hungarian, Finnish and Estonian – and the cultures and literatures of their speakers.
The linguistic work at the department focusses on the following domains:
- comparative and historical linguistics
- multilingualism and language contact
- applied linguistics and language education, primarily with respect to non-academic minority languages
