Department of German Studies

The linguistic section of the Department of German Studies takes an encompassing view of the German language as a cultural phenomenon. Its research and teaching covers the analysis, documentation, description, and didactics of the German language in its historical development and contemporary characteristics. This relates to both the linguistic structures of German, from sound to text (systemic linguistics), and the use of language in its specific societal context (pragmatics and sociolinguistics).
